Father and Son Pick Up Wins at Eriez Speedway

July 17, 2016
Hammett, PA

There have been Plyler Overhead Door Super Late Model one-two finishes by Rob and Max Blair before at Eriez but this time it was the elder star from Centerville, PA getting by the younger star on the final set of turns in an exceptionally close finish, Rob Blair winning by half a car-length! In the Bonnell Auto Group RUSH Crate Late Model feature Max Blair easily won his fifth feature of the season.

Jason Genco and Kyle Zimmerman started from the front of the Bonnell Auto Group RUSH Crate Late models feature with Genco leading lap one and a three wide battle developing by lap four for second featuring Max Blair, Matt Latta, and Zimmerman. Blair was solid in the spot by lap six and challenging the leader at eight complete.

On lap ten Blair came around Genco on the high side but Genco was alongside again at eleven laps. At twelve complete Blair was in sole possession of the lead when Hunter Hulley looped his mount in turn four just as the leaders were ready to put him a lap down. In turn four coming to the restart six cars piled up as the green was waving, delaying the start.

On the first lap after green Matt Latta got by Genco. On the main straight a lap later Scott Gurdak climbed the wall but kept from wrecking. The car suffered enough damage to head pitside. Blair went to his fifth win of the season with Latta spinning into the infield off the back straight on the final lap, giving the runner up spot back to Genco at the checkers over Zimmerman, Andy Boozel, and Mike Knight.

Bump Hedman and Matt Urban brought the Plyler Overhead Door Super Late Model feature to Mark Matthews’ green flag with Hedman leading lap one over Urban with a four wide fight for third at the end of lap one. At the end of three Max Blair was second and was leading at the back straight of lap five just as Kyle Scott tried moving the front straight wall (unsuccessful) with the yellow reverting to the last complete lap and Hedman still leading.

At the line at the end of seven Blair shot by Hedman on the top side with Rob Blair now pressuring Hedman for second. At twelve down Dutch Davies slowed on the front straight, slowing the race once again. Under the caution laps Matt Latta’s car erupted in flames that were quickly extinguished. When green was again the color of the race Rob Blair came to second with Greg Oakes getting to third at lap fifteen.

With five laps remaining Max Blair led Rob Blair and held a quarter lap lead on Oakes with defending champion Darrell Bossard fourth and Bump Hedman fifth. In the final turns the senior Blair dove low into turn three and came out of turn four with the lead, winning by half a car length! Oakes was third with Hedman fourth and Bossard fifth.
